As we process incoming information, we store what we consider to be the most relevant information at the time, in our memory banks, in order to do the best we can, to develop some sense of control over our life. Over time this information becomes part of our expanding awareness, including our beliefs, values and the STORIES that we tell ourselves and others about how the world works.
As humans, we’re “hard wired” for developing our own personalSTORY (beliefs, values, world view, etc. ). Other people in our surrounding Circles of Influence constantly interact and shape our stories, whether consciously or unconsciously, but when it’s all said and done, we’re here to leave our STORY behind for others to remember and think about.
So here’s the challenge…you can either consciously create yourSTORY, or passively, just allow it to happen to you. There will come a day for all of us, when the legacy we leave behind will be communicated to whoever wants to know and understand it.
The bottom line for all of us, is that either we create our STORY or others will do it for us.
From the Circles of Influence that surround us, film, music, video games, social media, TV, videos, etc. are all about STORIES. Hundreds of books and articles have been written about the power and importance of STORIES with titles like Whoever Tells The Best Story Wins, Wired For Story, Selling With Story, The 24 Laws of Storytelling, Storytelling Made Easy, Stories That Stick and on and on and on. Everything is a STORY, but for many of us, we become immersed in the OUTSIDE STORIES, those the surrounding Circles of Influence provide, because often THEIR STORIES appear to be more compelling, important and interesting to us than OUR STORY.
